Martin Luther King Day of Service.

January 15th was more than a "day on". We collected, sorted, processed and delivered kid's products as part of the large, regional Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.

Our first Philadelphia service project engaged more than 800 students through 4 all-school product drives. Another 50 volunteers (adults and kids) worked a shift  "on site" at The Martin Luther King School in Northwest Philadelphia on the 15th, helping to sort and process the donated goods to ensure that only high quality, age- and size-appropriate items made it into the packages for individual children. Our goal was to serve more than 300 local children-in-need through our partnerships with 6 local social service agencies. Details will be updated as soon as we can. Initial event photos can be found here.

Local schools and students pitched in

The Gesu School held a school-wide drive during December to collect infant layettes and baby bedding.

William Penn Charter School, Springside School, and Chestnut Hill Academy held drives for kids' clothes, safety equipment, books, educational toys, sports equipment, backpacks and school supplies and arts and crafts supplies from January 2 through January 13th.

Students from Martin Luther King, Jr. High School worked side by side with us on Monday, January 15th.

Videographers from the William Penn Charter School documented the day on video.  Clips will be up, as soon as they're edited.
