Family Volunteer Events

Family Volunteers1

Cradles to Crayons offers parents the opportunity to teach their children core values of service and philanthropy while volunteering together to help children in need.

Although families are always welcome to register during our regular volunteer shifts, we also have special family-oriented events scheduled throughout the year.

NOTE: Children must be at least 6 years old to work in the warehouse and all minor children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

To register for Family Events:

First-time volunteers: submit your registration request online.

Returning volunteers: email Courtney Straka with your date request. If children have not volunteered with you before, please include their full names and birth dates.

Family Volunteer Days

Family Volunteer Days provide a fun and meaningful way for families to spend time together.

  • These volunteer shifts are reserved just for families (not mixed with corporate volunteers or other groups.) Parents, grandparents, aunts & uncles or other family members are welcome to register with children from age 6 to 18.
  • First-time families are invited to arrive 15 minutes early for a full tour of the Giving Factory Warehouse.
  • Family Volunteer Days feature an interactive orientation to help children and teens have a better understanding of the impact of their work at Cradles to Crayons.
  • Volunteer activities might include sorting donations, cleaning toys & shoes, selecting outfits, assembling school supplies or “shopping” from donated goods to help area children in need.

In-Service Days and School Breaks

Looking for an activity when your child is home from school?

Families are always welcome to participate in our weekday volunteer shifts. We have regularly scheduled volunteering on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.  Choose between morning (10am – 12noon) or afternoon (1pm – 3pm) time slots.  These spaces fill quickly, so be sure to confirm availability in advance.

Un-Gala

Join us for our 10th Anniversary Un-Gala!

Our annual fundraiser is a dress-down, fun-filled day of service, and is the only event where children of any age can participate in volunteer activities at the warehouse.  Un-Gala is the signature event for our Gear Up for Winter campaign, which helps us provide cold-weather KidPacks to thousands of local children from October through March.  Un-Gala 2017 details are coming soon. Review the fun at Un-Gala 2016.

Service Projects

Does your child or teen need service hours or want to take a leadership role with their own service project?  We can help!Jordyn Nydish collection2

Through a combination of volunteer time in the warehouse, individual work and community-based service, we can help students reach their goals.  Each individual program begins when a child and parent visit the warehouse for a personal tour and meet with our staff to review options. Within a set of guidelines, students will set goals, determine strategy and execute a campaign for their own service project. Regular checkpoints with the Cradles to Crayons team are included in the process.

A limited number of student projects can be supported at any given time. Contact Suzanne Allen-Weise for more information and availability.

Birthday Parties

Looking for a new and different venue for your child’s celebration?  Are you trying to inspire more giving and less wanting

Maddie BD party1Schedule a birthday volunteer party for your child and friends. Children will decorate birthday bags and make cards for a child in need, then participate in a volunteer shift. We will provide a table with our signature purple tablecloths, plus paper products for your cake or snacks to be enjoyed after the work is completed.  The birthday boy or girl will receive a Cradles to Crayons t-shirt and every child in attendance will receive a crayon bank as party favor to remember their experience.

We ask that each child bring something to donate, from their own closet or a new toy, pair of shoes, etc.

Adult chaperons are required to participate, with a higher ratio of grown-ups to children for the younger ages.

Special note: Four or five year-old celebrations are welcome on weekdays, based on availability. These will include a story time and basic volunteer activity. This is one of the only opportunities for pre-schoolers to participate in warehouse activities.

We want to ensure a safe and positive experience for your child’s party. A donation in your child’s honor, equivalent to what you might have spent on a different party venue (approx $250 – $500), is required in order for us to properly staff your event.

Please contact Suzanne Allen-Weise for more information and availability.
